Trauma Therapy & Relationship Counseling in Colorado, with Abby Polly-Almanza, LMFT

You may look high-functioning on the outside, but inside you feel exhausted, anxious, or disconnected—stuck in patterns you’ve tried hard to outgrow. Maybe past experiences still live in your body, shaping how safe you feel, how you relate to others, or how you see yourself. Or perhaps your relationship feels strained by conflict, distance, or old wounds that keep resurfacing no matter how much you talk about them.

Many of the people I work with are deeply capable, thoughtful, and self-aware—yet still struggle with chronic self-doubt, burnout, emotional disconnection, or the lingering effects of trauma. You might feel like you’re carrying too much on your own, unsure how to truly rest, trust, or feel at ease again.

Hi, I’m Abby, and I can help.

I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing in person therapy in Fort Collins, Colorado and online therapy across Colorado, with a focus on trauma therapy, EMDR, and relationship work. My approach is relational, collaborative, and systemic.

In my work with individuals, I integrate EMDR and IFS-informed therapy to help clients process trauma, soften inner criticism, and reconnect with parts of themselves that learned to stay guarded in order to survive. Healing isn’t about “fixing” yourself—it’s about creating enough safety to let change happen naturally.

For couples, I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), The Gottman Method, and PACT to help partners understand their patterns, repair attachment injuries, and move toward deeper emotional connection. I also work with families of all ages, using family systems and play-based approaches to support healthier communication and stronger bonds.

Many therapists and helping professionals also seek me out for support with burnout, compassion fatigue, and the emotional weight that can come with caring for others.

My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, culturally responsive, and rooted in compassion. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to perform or have it all figured out—you get to slow down, feel understood, and move toward meaningful, lasting change.
